The Environment

Often, late at night when sleep does not come easily, I meander about the news feeds, finding interesting things and storing them for future use.  Acutally, this is a pretty common practice so I have a treasure trove of articles to share.

But, this one caught my eye, and then my concern.

The article in Futurism makes the claim that this year, 2017, is set to be the hottest year in recorded history. Yes, there is a bit of hyperbole in the title, but the clearly shows that we have had an impact on the environment, and that impact is - well - important.

The article can be found at "Hottest Year on Record."

The authors write,

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) reported that last year, temperatures increased to 1.1°C above what was recorded in the pre-industrial era. Global temperatures increased consistently and drastically. Now, many people see 1.1°C and it’s difficult to see why this temperature variation would cause such mass mayhem.

Setting aside the sometimes sensationalist tone of the reporting, the claim is important.

If we have had this great an impact on the global temperature, what will be the ramifications?

How can leadership deny the impact or the ramifications?

When will we reach a "tipping point," beyond which time traditional solutions become impossible?

There are lots and lots of questions to ask.
